अस्य श्री चन्द्र कवचस्य । गौतम ऋषिः । अनुष्टुप् छन्दः । श्री चन्द्रो देवता । चन्द्र प्रीत्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः ॥
asya sri chandra kavachasya । gautama rsih । anustup Chandah । sri chandro devata । chandra prityarthe jape viniyogah ॥
Sage for this prayer is Gowthama, meter is Anushtup, God is the moon and this is being chanted to please the moon.

अथ चन्द्र कवचम्/atha chandra kavacham

समं चतुर्भुजं वन्दे केयूर मकुटोज्वलम् । वासुदेवस्य नयनं शङ्करस्य च भूषणम् ॥ १ ॥
samam chaturbhujam vande keyura makutojvalam । vasudevasya nayanam sankarasya cha bhusanam ॥1॥
I salute the four armed Moon god who is calm, Who shines in a gem studded great crown, Who is the eye of Lord Vishnu, And the ornament of Lord Shiva.

एवं ध्यात्वा जपेन्नित्यं शशिनः कवचं शुभम् । शशी पातु शिरोदेशं भालं पातु कलानिधिः ॥ २ ॥
evam dhyatva japennityam sasinah kavacham subham । sasi patu sirodesam bhalam patu kalanidhih ॥ 2 ॥
Thus praying, this holy armor of moon, should be chanted daily, Let my head be protected by the moon, and hairs be protected by the treasure of arts.
चक्षुषी चन्द्रमाः पातु श्रुती पातु निशापतिः । प्राणं क्षपकरः पातु मुखं कुमुदबान्धवः ॥ ३ ॥
chaksusi chandramah patu sruti patu nisapatih । pranam ksapakarah patu mukham kumudabandhavah ॥ 3 ॥
Let my eyes be protected by he who has moonlight, Let my ears be protected by the Lord of the night, Let my soul be protected by he who is merciful, And my face be protected by the relative of Lotus.
पातु कण्ठं च मे सोमः स्कन्धे जैवातृकस्तथा । करौ सुधाकरः पातु वक्षः पातु निशाकरः ॥ ४ ॥
patu kantham cha me somah skandhe jaivatrkastatha । karau sudhakarah patu vaksah patu nisakarah ॥ 4 ॥
Let Soma protect my neck, Let my shoulder be protected by one who is long lived, Let the maker of nectar protect my hands, And the maker of night protect my chest.
हृदयं पातु मे चन्द्रो नाभिं शङ्करभूषणः । मध्यं पातु सुरश्रेष्ठः कटिं पातु सुधाकरः ॥ ५ ॥
hrdayam patu me chandro nabhim sankarabhusanah । madhyam patu surasresthah katim patu sudhakarah ॥ 5 ॥
Let my heart be protected by the moon, Let my belly be protected by the ornament of Shiva, Let my middle be protected by the chief of devas, And my hip be protected by he who makes nectar.
ऊरू तारापतिः पातु मृगाङ्को जानुनी सदा । अब्धिजः पातु मे जङ्घे पातु पादौ विधुः सदा ॥ ६ ॥
uru tarapatih patu mrganko januni sada । abdhijah patu me janghe patu padau vidhuh sada ॥ 6 ॥
Let my thighs be protected by the Lord of the stars, Let he who has a deer protect my knees, Let the maker of time protect my calves, Let my feet be protected by Moon.
सर्वाण्यन्यानि चाङ्गानि पातु चन्द्रोखिलं वपुः । एतद्धि कवचं दिव्यं भुक्ति मुक्ति प्रदायकम् ॥ ७ ॥
sarvanyanyani changani patu chandrokhilam vapuh । etaddhi kavacham divyam bhukti mukti pradayakam ॥ 7 ॥
Let all my other organs be protected by Chandra who is everywhere And this armour would give one devotion and salvation.

फलश्रुतिः/phalaśrutih

यः पठेच्छृणुयाद्वापि सर्वत्र विजयी भवेत् ॥ ८ ॥
yah pathechChrnuyadvapi sarvatra vijayi bhavet ॥ 8 ॥
If one reads or hears this, he would win in everything.

॥ इति श्रीचन्द्र कवचं सम्पूर्णम् ॥
॥ iti srichandra kavacham sampurnam ॥
Thus ends the armour of the moon.
