अगस्तिरुवाच/ Agastira Uvacha

आजानुबाहुमरविन्ददलायता क्षमाजन्मशुद्धरसहासमुखप्रसादम् । श्यामं गृहीत शरचापमुदाररूपं रामं सराममभिराममनुस्मरामि ॥ 1 ॥
ājānubāhumaravindadalāyatā kṣamājanmaśuddharasahāsamukhaprasādam . śyāmaṃ gṛhīta śaracāpamudārarūpaṃ rāmaṃ sarāmamabhirāmamanusmarāmi .. 1 ..
I think about Rama who is every second pretty, Who has hands reaching up to his thighs, who has lotus like eyes, Who is pure all his life, who has a smiling face, Who is black, who holds bow and arrow and has a generous form.

अस्य श्रीरामकवचस्य अगस्त्य ऋषिः अनुष्टुप् छन्दः सीतालक्ष्मणोपेतः श्रीरामचन्द्रो देवता श्रीरामचन्द्रप्रसादसिद्ध्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः ।
asya śrīrāmakavacasya agastya ṛṣiḥ anuṣṭup chandaḥ sītālakṣmaṇopetaḥ śrīrāmacandro devatā śrīrāmacandraprasādasiddhyarthe jape viniyogaḥ .
For the armour of Sri Rama, the sage is Agasthya, the meter is Anushtup, the god addressed is Rama with his brother Lakshmana and Sita and the chanting is done to get the grace of Sri Ramachandra.
अथ ध्यानं/ Dhyanam Begins
Shloka 1
नीलजीमूतसङ्काशं विद्युद्वर्णाम्बरावृतम् । कोमलाङ्गं विशालाक्षं युवानमतिसुन्दरम् ॥ 1 ॥
nīlajīmūtasaṅkāśaṃ vidyudvarṇāmbarāvṛtam . komalāṅgaṃ viśālākṣaṃ yuvānamatisundaram .. 1 ..
He is of the colour of blue cloud, wears shining coloured cloths, Has pretty limbs, has broad eyes, is a lad and is very pretty.
Shloka 2
सीतासौमित्रिसहितं जटामुकुटधारिणम् । सासितूणधनुर्बाणपाणिं दानवमर्दनम् ॥ 2 ॥
sītāsaumitrisahitaṃ jaṭāmukuṭadhāriṇam . sāsitūṇadhanurbāṇapāṇiṃ dānavamardanam .. 2 ..
He is with Sita and Lakshmana, has his tufted locks as crown, He is armed with a sword, bow and arrows and kills asuras.
Shloka 3
यदा चोरभये राजभये शत्रुभये तथा । ध्यात्वा रघुपतिं क्रुद्धं कालानलसमप्रभम् ॥ 3 ॥
yadā corabhaye rājabhaye śatrubhaye tathā . dhyātvā raghupatiṃ kruddhaṃ kālānalasamaprabham .. 3 ..
He becomes angry at the thieves and enemies and has the radiance of the deadly fire, If someone out of fear for thieves or enemy remembers him as Lord of Raghu clan.
Shloka 4
चीरकृष्णाजिनधरं भस्मोद्धूलितविग्रहम् । आकर्णाकृष्टविशिखकोदण्डभुजमण्डितम् ॥ 4 ॥
cīrakṛṣṇājinadharaṃ bhasmoddhūlitavigraham . ākarṇākṛṣṭaviśikhakodaṇḍabhujamaṇḍitam .. 4 ..
He wears the hide of deer as cloth, his body is coated with ashes, He has a strong hand by which he pulls his bow Kodanda till his ear.
Shloka 5
रणे रिपून् रावणादींस्तीक्ष्णमार्गणवृष्टिभिः । संहरन्तं महावीरमुग्रमैन्द्ररथस्थितम् ॥ 5 ॥
raṇe ripūn rāvaṇādīṃstīkṣṇamārgaṇavṛṣṭibhiḥ . saṃharantaṃ mahāvīramugramaindrarathasthitam .. 5 ..
He rode on the chariot given by Indra and by using rain of arrows, Killed his enemy Ravana in a war, he being a great valorous hero.
Shloka 6
लक्ष्मणाद्यैर्महावीरैर्वृतं हनुमदादिभिः । सुग्रीवाद्यैर्माहावीरैः शैलवृक्षकरोद्यतैः ॥ 6 ॥ वेगात्करालहुङ्कारैर्भुभुक्कारमहारवैः । नदद्भिः परिवादद्भिः समरे रावणं प्रति ॥ 7 ॥
lakṣmaṇādyairmahāvīrairvṛtaṃ hanumadādibhiḥ . sugrīvādyairmāhāvīraiḥ śailavṛkṣakarodyataiḥ .. 6 .. vegātkarālahuṅkārairbhubhukkāramahāravaiḥ . nadadbhiḥ parivādadbhiḥ samare rāvaṇaṃ prati .. 7 ..
He was supported by the penance of the great Hero Lakshmana as well as Hanuman and others, Who was supported by great heroes Like Sugreeva who were armed with trees and mountains, Accompanied by fast and dark utterance of "Hum" and creating great sounds like "bhu, bhu", And also supported by his devotees and others in the war against Ravana.
Shloka 7
श्रीराम शत्रुसङ्घान्मे हन मर्दय खादय । भूतप्रेतपिशाचादीन् श्रीरामाशु विनाशय ॥ 8 ॥
śrīrāma śatrusaṅghānme hana mardaya khādaya . bhūtapretapiśācādīn śrīrāmāśu vināśaya .. 8 ..
Oh Rama, aim at the enemies and kill them, beat them and eat them, And Oh Rama quickly destroy ghosts, dead souls and devils.
Shloka 8
एवं ध्यात्वा जपेद्रामकवचं सिद्धिदायकम् । सुतीक्ष्ण वज्रकवचं शृणु वक्ष्याम्यनुत्तमम् ॥ 9 ॥
evaṃ dhyātvā japedrāmakavacaṃ siddhidāyakam . sutīkṣṇa vajrakavacaṃ śṛṇu vakṣyāmyanuttamam .. 9 ..
Meditaing like this, chant the armour of Rama which grants you strength, And which is a sharp diamond armour. Please hear that matchless armour.
अथ कवचम्/ Kavacham Starts
Shloka 9
श्रीरामः पातु मे मूर्ध्नि पूर्वे च रघुवंशजः । दक्षिणे मे रघुवरः पश्चिमे पातु पावनः ॥ 10 ॥
śrīrāmaḥ pātu me mūrdhni pūrve ca raghuvaṃśajaḥ . dakṣiṇe me raghuvaraḥ paścime pātu pāvanaḥ .. 10 ..
Let Sri Rama protect my head, Let my east side be protected by him who belongs to Raghu clan,Let my south side be protected by the great one of Raghu clan, Let the pure one protect my west side.
Shloka 10
उत्तरे मे रघुपतिर्भालं दशरथात्मजः । भ्रुवोर्दूर्वादलश्यामस्तयोर्मध्ये जनार्दनः ॥ 11 ॥
uttare me raghupatirbhālaṃ daśarathātmajaḥ . bhruvordūrvādalaśyāmastayormadhye janārdanaḥ .. 11 ..
Let Lord of Raghu protect my north, Let son of Dasaratha protect my forehead, Let my eyelids be protected by him who is black like the leaf of birch tree, And let the middle of my bones be protected by Janardhana.
Shloka 11
श्रोत्रं मे पातु राजेन्द्रो दृशौ राजीवलोचनः । घ्राणं मे पातु राजर्षिर्गण्डौ मे जानकीपतिः ॥ 12 ॥
śrotraṃ me pātu rājendro dṛśau rājīvalocanaḥ . ghrāṇaṃ me pātu rājarṣirgaṇḍau me jānakīpatiḥ .. 12 ..
Let my ears be protected by Rajendra, Let my eyes be protected by the lotus eyed one, Let my nose be protected by the Royal sage, And let my neck be protected by the Lord of Janaki.
Shloka 12
कर्णमूले खरध्वंसी भालं मे रघुवल्लभः । जिह्वां मे वाक्पतिः पातु दन्तपङ्क्ती रघूत्तमः ॥ 13 ॥
karṇamūle kharadhvaṃsī bhālaṃ me raghuvallabhaḥ . jihvāṃ me vākpatiḥ pātu dantapaṅktī raghūttamaḥ .. 13 ..
Let the root of my ears be protected by the killer of Khara, Let my forehead be protected by Lord of Raghu clan, Let my tongue be protected by the Lord of words, And the best among Raghus protect my row of teeth.
Shloka 13
ओष्ठौ श्रीरामचन्द्रो मे मुखं पातु परात्परः । कण्ठं पातु जगद्वन्द्यः स्कन्धौ मे रावणान्तकः ॥ 14 ॥
oṣṭhau śrīrāmacandro me mukhaṃ pātu parātparaḥ . kaṇṭhaṃ pātu jagadvandyaḥ skandhau me rāvaṇāntakaḥ .. 14 ..
Let my lips be protected by Sri Ramachandra, Let my face be protected by the ultimate God, Let my neck be protected by him who is worshipped by universe, And let my shoulder be worshipped by killer of Ravana.
Shloka 14
धनुर्बाणधरः पातु भुजौ मे वालिमर्दनः । सर्वाण्यङ्गुलिपर्वाणि हस्तौ मे राक्षसान्तकः ॥ 15 ॥
dhanurbāṇadharaḥ pātu bhujau me vālimardanaḥ . sarvāṇyaṅguliparvāṇi hastau me rākṣasāntakaḥ .. 15 ..
Let my arms be protected by one who is armed with bow and arrow, Let all my fingers be protected by the killer of Bali, And let my hands be protected by killer of Rakshasas.
Shloka 15
वक्षो मे पातु काकुत्स्थः पातु मे हृदयं हरिः । स्तनौ सीतापतिः पातु पार्श्वं मे जगदीश्वरः ॥ 16 ॥
vakṣo me pātu kākutsthaḥ pātu me hṛdayaṃ hariḥ . stanau sītāpatiḥ pātu pārśvaṃ me jagadīśvaraḥ .. 16 ..
Let Kakustha protect my chest, Let Hari protect my heart, Let my chest be protected by Lord of Sita, And let my ribs be protected by God of the universe.
Shloka 16
मध्यं मे पातु लक्ष्मीशो नाभिं मे रघुनायकः । कौसल्येयः कटी पातु पृष्ठं दुर्गतिनाशनः ॥ 17 ॥
madhyaṃ me pātu lakṣmīśo nābhiṃ me raghunāyakaḥ . kausalyeyaḥ kaṭī pātu pṛṣṭhaṃ durgatināśanaḥ .. 17 ..
Let my middle be protected by Lord of Lakshmi, Let my navel be protected by the chief of Raghu clan, Let my waist be protected by son of Kausalya, And let my back be protected by he who destroys bad future.
Shloka 17
गुह्यं पातु हृषीकेशः सक्थिनी सत्यविक्रमः । ऊरू शार्ङ्गधरः पातु जानुनी हनुमत्प्रियः ॥ 18 ॥
guhyaṃ pātu hṛṣīkeśaḥ sakthinī satyavikramaḥ . ūrū śārṅgadharaḥ pātu jānunī hanumatpriyaḥ .. 18 ..
Let my reproductory parts be protected by Hrishikesa, Let my thigh be protected by hero of truth, Let my thigh be protected by holder of Sarnga, Let my knee be protected by he who is liked by Hanuman
Shloka 18
जङ्घे पातु जगद्व्यापी पादौ मे ताटकान्तकः । सर्वाङ्गं पातु मे विष्णुः सर्वसन्धीननामयः ॥ 19 ॥
jaṅghe pātu jagadvyāpī pādau me tāṭakāntakaḥ . sarvāṅgaṃ pātu me viṣṇuḥ sarvasandhīnanāmayaḥ .. 19 ..
Let my shanks be protected by he who has spread all over the universe, Let my feet be protected by killer of Thadaga, Lat all my body parts be protected by Lord Vishnu, And let my all my joints be protected by he who is free from all diseases.
Shloka 19
ज्ञानेन्द्रियाणि प्राणादीन् पातु मे मधुसूदनः । पातु श्रीरामभद्रो मे शब्दादीन्विषयानपि ॥ 20 ॥
jñānendriyāṇi prāṇādīn pātu me madhusūdanaḥ . pātu śrīrāmabhadro me śabdādīnviṣayānapi .. 20 ..
Let killer of Madhu protect all my senses of discrimination and my different airs, Let Ramabhadra protect all my sounds and faculties.
Shloka 20
द्विपदादीनि भूतानि मत्सम्बन्धीनि यानि च । जामदग्न्यमहादर्पदलनः पातु तानि मे ॥ 21 ॥
dvipadādīni bhūtāni matsambandhīni yāni ca . jāmadagnyamahādarpadalanaḥ pātu tāni me .. 21 ..
Let all my human assistants, and spirits and all that, Is concerning me be protected by the one, Who removed the conceit of the son of Jamadagni.
Shloka 21
सौमित्रिपूर्वजः पातु वागादीनीन्द्रियाणि च । रोमाङ्कुराण्यशेषाणि पातु सुग्रीवराज्यदः ॥ 22 ॥
saumitripūrvajaḥ pātu vāgādīnīndriyāṇi ca . romāṅkurāṇyaśeṣāṇi pātu sugrīvarājyadaḥ .. 22 ..
Let my organs necessary to control voice be protected by Elder brother of Lakshmana, Let my hair pores and other organs be protected by he wjho made Sugreeva, the king.
Shloka 22
वाङ्मनोबुद्ध्यहङ्कारैर्ज्ञानाज्ञानकृतानि च । जन्मान्तरकृतानीह पापानि विविधानि च ॥ 23 ॥ तानि सर्वाणि दग्ध्वाशु हरकोदण्डखण्डनः । पातु मां सर्वतो रामः शार्ङ्गबाणधरः सदा ॥ 24 ॥
vāṅmanobuddhyahaṅkārairjñānājñānakṛtāni ca . janmāntarakṛtānīha pāpāni vividhāni ca .. 23 .. tāni sarvāṇi dagdhvāśu harakodaṇḍakhaṇḍanaḥ . pātu māṃ sarvato rāmaḥ śārṅgabāṇadharaḥ sadā .. 24 ..
Let all the various type of sins done in various births by, Speech, mind, wisdom, egoism, intelligence and ignorance, May be pardoned by the Lord who tied the Kodanda bow, Oh Rama, Oh holder of Saranga always protect me.
Shloka 23
इति श्रीरामचन्द्रस्य कवचं वज्रसम्मितम् । गुह्याद्गुह्यतमं दिव्यं सुतीक्ष्ण मुनिसत्तम ॥ 25 ॥
iti śrīrāmacandrasya kavacaṃ vajrasammitam . guhyādguhyatamaṃ divyaṃ sutīkṣṇa munisattama .. 25 ..
This is the armour of Ramachandra which is termed as diamond, And is the divine secret of secrets written by sage Sutheeshna.
Shloka 24
यः पठेच्छृणुयाद्वापि श्रावयेद्वा समाहितः । स याति परमं स्थानं रामचन्द्रप्रसादतः ॥ 26 ॥
yaḥ paṭhecchṛṇuyādvāpi śrāvayedvā samāhitaḥ . sa yāti paramaṃ sthānaṃ rāmacandraprasādataḥ .. 26 ..
If this complete armour is read or heard or made to be heard by others, Then by the grace of God Ramachandra he would attain a great place.
Shloka 25
महापातकयुक्तो वा गोघ्नो वा भ्रूणहा तथा । श्रीरामचन्द्रकवचपठनाच्छुद्धिमाप्नुयात् ॥ 27 ॥
mahāpātakayukto vā goghno vā bhrūṇahā tathā . śrīrāmacandrakavacapaṭhanācchuddhimāpnuyāt .. 27 ..
One who has done great crimes, has killed a cow or induced abortion, Would be made greatly pure by reading the armour of Ramachandra.
Shloka 26
ब्रह्महत्यादिभिः पापैर्मुच्यते नात्र संशयः । भो सुतीक्ष्ण यथा पृष्टं त्वया मम पुराः शुभम् । तथा श्रीरामकवचं मया ते विनिवेदितम् ॥ 28 ॥
brahmahatyādibhiḥ pāpairmucyate nātra saṃśayaḥ . bho sutīkṣṇa yathā pṛṣṭaṃ tvayā mama purāḥ śubham . tathā śrīrāmakavacaṃ mayā te viniveditam .. 28 ..
He would without any doubt get rid of sins like Brahma hathya, So writes Sutheeshna to me so that I would be auspicious, And thus I announce the armour of Sri Ramachandra.
Shloka 27
इति श्रीमदानन्दरामायणे मनोहरकाण्डे सुतीक्ष्णागस्त्यसंवादे श्रीरामकवचम् ॥
iti śrīmadānandarāmāyaṇe manoharakāṇḍe sutīkṣṇāgastyasaṃvāde śrīrāmakavacam ..
Thus ends the rama kavacham , a conversation between sutikshan and agastya which appear in the manohara kanda of the great epic ramayana
