गङ्गा तरङ्ग रमणीय जटा कलापं
गौरी निरन्तर विभूषित वाम भागं
नारायण प्रियमनङ्ग मदापहारं

वागीश विष्णु सुर सेवित पाद पद्मं

vāchāmagōcharamanēka guṇa svarūpaṃ
vāgīśa viṣṇu sura sēvita pāda padmaṃ
vāmēṇa vigraha varēna kalatravantaṃ

bhūtādipaṃ bhujaga bhūṣaṇa bhūṣitāṅgaṃ
vyāghrāñjināṃ baradharaṃ, jaṭilaṃ, trinētraṃ

pañchānanaṃ durita matta mataṅgajānāṃ
nāgāntakaṃ dhanuja puṅgava pannāgānāṃ
dāvānalaṃ maraṇa śōka jarāṭavīnāṃ
vārāṇasī purapatiṃ bhaja viśvanādham ॥ 5 ॥

तेजोमयं सगुण निर्गुणमद्वितीयं
आनन्द कन्दमपराजित मप्रमेयं
नागात्मकं सकल निष्कलमात्म रूपं
वाराणसी पुरपतिं भज विश्वनाधम् ॥ 6 ॥
tējōmayaṃ saguṇa nirguṇamadvitīyaṃ
ānanda kandamaparājita mapramēyaṃ
nāgātmakaṃ sakala niṣkaḻamātma rūpaṃ
vārāṇasī purapatiṃ bhaja viśvanādham ॥ 6 ॥
6.1: Who is filled with Spiritual Splendour (Tejomaya), Who can assume a form with Gunas as well as abide as the Non-dual expanse beyond all Gunas,
6.2: Whose essential nature overflows with Bliss which is Unsurpassed by anything and is beyond all Measures,

पापे रथिं च सुनिवार्य मनस्समाधौ

āśāṃ vihāya parihṛtya paraśya nindāṃ
pāpē rathiṃ cha sunivārya manassamādhau
ādhāya hṛt-kamala madhya gataṃ parēśaṃ
vārāṇasī purapatiṃ bhaja viśvanādham ॥ 7 ॥
7.1: Who is free from all vices like Raga (Passion) and others, and Who is graceful to the Devotees,
7.2: Whom is an abode of Peace born of Vairagya, and Whose Companion is Devi Girija (the Universal Shakti),

वैराग्य शान्ति निलयं गिरिजा सहायं

rāgādhi dōṣa rahitaṃ svajanānurāgaṃ
vairāgya śānti nilayaṃ girijā sahāyaṃ
mādhurya dhairya subhagaṃ garaḻābhirāmaṃ

विद्यां श्रियं विपुल सौख्यमनन्त कीर्तिं
सम्प्राप्य देव निलये लभते च मोक्षम् ॥
vārāṇasī pura patē sthavanaṃ śivasya
vyākhyātaṃ aṣṭakamidaṃ paṭhatē manuṣya
vidyāṃ śriyaṃ vipula saukhyamananta kīrtiṃ
samprāpya dēva nilayē labhatē cha mōkṣam ॥

विश्वनाधाष्टकमिदं पुण्यं यः पठेः शिव सन्निधौ
शिवलोकमवाप्नोति शिवेनसह मोदते ॥
viśvanādhāṣṭakamidaṃ puṇyaṃ yaḥ paṭhēḥ śiva sannidhau
śivalōkamavāpnōti śivēnasaha mōdatē ॥
Those who recite the holy kasi Vishwanath ashtakam with devotion receive the blessing of lord shiva and a place in the shiva loka.
