Shloka 9
अस्य श्री चन्द्र कवचस्य । गौतम ऋषिः । अनुष्टुप् छन्दः । श्री चन्द्रो देवता । चन्द्र प्रीत्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः ॥
asya śrī candra kavacasya . gautama ṛṣiḥ . anuṣṭup chandaḥ . śrī candro devatā . candra prītyarthe jape viniyogaḥ ..
Sage for this prayer is Gowthama, meter is Anushtup, God is the moon and this is being chanted to please the moon.
अथ चन्द्र कवचम्/atha chandra kavacham
Shloka 1
समं चतुर्भुजं वन्दे केयूर मकुटोज्वलम् । वासुदेवस्य नयनं शङ्करस्य च भूषणम् ॥ १ ॥
samaṃ caturbhujaṃ vande keyūra makuṭojvalam . vāsudevasya nayanaṃ śaṅkarasya ca bhūṣaṇam .. 1 ..
I salute the four armed Moon god who is calm, Who shines in a gem studded great crown, Who is the eye of Lord Vishnu, And the ornament of Lord Shiva.
Shloka 2
एवं ध्यात्वा जपेन्नित्यं शशिनः कवचं शुभम् । शशी पातु शिरोदेशं भालं पातु कलानिधिः ॥ २ ॥
evaṃ dhyātvā japennityaṃ śaśinaḥ kavacaṃ śubham . śaśī pātu śirodeśaṃ bhālaṃ pātu kalānidhiḥ .. 2 ..
Thus praying, this holy armor of moon, should be chanted daily, Let my head be protected by the moon, and hairs be protected by the treasure of arts.
Shloka 3
चक्षुषी चन्द्रमाः पातु श्रुती पातु निशापतिः । प्राणं क्षपकरः पातु मुखं कुमुदबान्धवः ॥ ३ ॥
cakṣuṣī candramāḥ pātu śrutī pātu niśāpatiḥ . prāṇaṃ kṣapakaraḥ pātu mukhaṃ kumudabāndhavaḥ .. 3 ..
Let my eyes be protected by he who has moonlight, Let my ears be protected by the Lord of the night, Let my soul be protected by he who is merciful, And my face be protected by the relative of Lotus.
Shloka 4
पातु कण्ठं च मे सोमः स्कन्धे जैवातृकस्तथा । करौ सुधाकरः पातु वक्षः पातु निशाकरः ॥ ४ ॥
pātu kaṇṭhaṃ ca me somaḥ skandhe jaivātṛkastathā . karau sudhākaraḥ pātu vakṣaḥ pātu niśākaraḥ .. 4 ..
Let Soma protect my neck, Let my shoulder be protected by one who is long lived, Let the maker of nectar protect my hands, And the maker of night protect my chest.
Shloka 5
हृदयं पातु मे चन्द्रो नाभिं शङ्करभूषणः । मध्यं पातु सुरश्रेष्ठः कटिं पातु सुधाकरः ॥ ५ ॥
hṛdayaṃ pātu me candro nābhiṃ śaṅkarabhūṣaṇaḥ . madhyaṃ pātu suraśreṣṭhaḥ kaṭiṃ pātu sudhākaraḥ .. 5 ..
Let my heart be protected by the moon, Let my belly be protected by the ornament of Shiva, Let my middle be protected by the chief of devas, And my hip be protected by he who makes nectar.
Shloka 6
ऊरू तारापतिः पातु मृगाङ्को जानुनी सदा । अब्धिजः पातु मे जङ्घे पातु पादौ विधुः सदा ॥ ६ ॥
ūrū tārāpatiḥ pātu mṛgāṅko jānunī sadā . abdhijaḥ pātu me jaṅghe pātu pādau vidhuḥ sadā .. 6 ..
Let my thighs be protected by the Lord of the stars, Let he who has a deer protect my knees, Let the maker of time protect my calves, Let my feet be protected by Moon.
Shloka 7
सर्वाण्यन्यानि चाङ्गानि पातु चन्द्रोखिलं वपुः । एतद्धि कवचं दिव्यं भुक्ति मुक्ति प्रदायकम् ॥ ७ ॥
sarvāṇyanyāni cāṅgāni pātu candrokhilaṃ vapuḥ . etaddhi kavacaṃ divyaṃ bhukti mukti pradāyakam .. 7 ..
Let all my other organs be protected by Chandra who is everywhere And this armour would give one devotion and salvation.
फलश्रुतिः/phalaśrutih
Shloka 8
यः पठेच्छृणुयाद्वापि सर्वत्र विजयी भवेत् ॥ ८ ॥
yaḥ paṭhecchṛṇuyādvāpi sarvatra vijayī bhavet .. 8 ..
If one reads or hears this, he would win in everything.
Shloka 9
॥ इति श्रीचन्द्र कवचं सम्पूर्णम् ॥
.. iti śrīcandra kavacaṃ sampūrṇam ..
Thus ends the armour of the moon.
